International Antarctic Centre in Christchurch

We thought we would check out this place while briefly back in Christchurch as it is where flights leave that travel to Antarctic to Scott Base. This attraction has many different parts to it and provides a great source of information and experience about this amazing place. The Antarctic is made up of the continent of antarctica and the ice shelves that surround it, the waters and island territories of the Southern Ocean. While there we got to see (more) Little Penguins. The ones here have been rescued after injury or attack and many are blind or have a flipper missing but are still just as cute and we got see see them up close too. There is plenty of information about the history of Scott Base and those that have ventured to one of the coldest, driest and windiest places on earth. We also got to have a go on the Hagglund Ride which is the vehicles that they use in the Antartic to travel over the ice and it made for an exciting ride over the track, going up and down hills and through water.

  1. What a cool - no pun intended - place to visit. I thought that was a fire truck to begin with, but also a cool thing to have a ride on. Nice coat !!
