We head up to San Francisco do some sightseeing. We visit Alcatraz, taking the ferry across the bay to the island (or The Rock as featured in the great film with Nick Cage and Sean Connery) and get a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge across the water from us. We walk up the hill to the prison building and take the audio tour around the buildings listening the history of the place and its famous residents such as Al Capone. It really was a cold place and must have been pretty awful being there...but then it wasn't meant to be a holiday destination!!
We walk down and up the windiest and steepest road (Lombard Street) in San Francisco. We took the trolley cars (trams) up and down the hills and went to see how they work.
We went to Pier 39 which is the most famous of all the piers in San Francisco and home to the resident sea lions who hang out on the pontoons.
