For those of you that watched the tv series about the Little Penguins on Phillip Island will know how cute they are and it was something that we wanted to see while in Melbourne. However when we went to St Kilda for the day on Friday we wandered along the pier and noticed a sign that said that the Little Penguins had formed a colony on the end of the pier and you could see them at dawn and dusk.
So after tea last night we had a mad dash in the car down to St Kilda and ran all the way to and along the pier as dusk was quickly turning into night.
As we arrived we were greeted by lots of Little Penguins coming out of the water, sitting on the rocks and making lots of noise. They are so cute and you can get quite near them too. This colony has been here for many years and there are guides to tell you about them (although we obviously knew lots from Rolf Harris!).
The pictures aren't that great because you aren't allowed to use your flash, but I forget to turn mine off so got a cheeky picture of one where you can actually see the penguin. All the others were taken with a red filter on the flashlight and no flash.
So cute. Ruby loves penguins right now, so I'll have to show her your pics.
