So with our Toyota Corolla hired we head out of Townsville and make our way to Airlie Beach. This is the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands which are the most photographed islands in the world. We arrive late afternoon and find somewhere to stay and book ourselves onto Ocean Rafting for Wednesday. In the morning we head down to the jetty to get on the boat. We get our "stinger suits" which are now necessary for swimming/snorkelling in the water as the jellyfish are now in season - think green goddess leotard but zipped up to the neck in blue! So off we zoom to our first snorkelling stop and the cloud has started to build up. Then on to our 2nd snorkel spot and by now its completely cloudy and looking like rain. We have a pretty rough ride to the next island, jumping the waves and getting a bit wet.
We arrive on the island and head up to the lookout stage. Now, here I am on Whitehaven Beanch which is the most amazing beach in the world and guess what.....it's raining....can you believe that!!! The view from the lookout is still amazing but with dark clouds looming all around we head down for lunch and sit on the sand in the rain...this can't be right! After lunch the crowd decides it's too chilly and wet to spend any more time sitting on the beach so we head back.
Now after all the bouncing up and down on the waves on the way there the ride home isn't quite so rough but with rain whipping in our faces and feeling a bit cold, I get moved to a seat with a bit more room just as the boat is bouncing along and bash my foot on the post and manage to break my little toe...now this wasn't a good end to a day on the beach! So I hobble home to a warm shower and pizza!
So the pictures that are with this post are of the beach but you may want to google it to see it at its best!
OMG a broken toe!!! poor you. Apart from that, everything sounds so wonderful. The cruise sounds amazing and all the snorkeling. Seeing turtles swimmng by you is great isn't it - we did that loads in Hawaii. Very fetching stinger suit too !!!! Hugs xxx
