Te Puia
This is a Maori cultural centre just outside of town. It has the Prince of Wales’ Feathers geyser and the Pohutu Geyser, which is the biggest one of all but didn’t play ball while we were there! We see a Maori welcome featuring the haka and dancing with Poi and sticks and singing. There is a carving workshop and also a weaving workshop. There is also a nocturnal house where 2 kiwis live so we got to see them feeding and wandering around in the dark.
After a leisurely day we drop off friends and head to Whakatane. After checking in we wander along the high street and decide on Thai food for tea and have a lovely green curry and pad thai - yummy!
